Please understand that to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist you must take the Intro and Advanced Classes and accumulate 700 hours of training with a student or students.
Registration and final payment deadline for ALL JUNE classes is Friday, May 17, 2024. Registration and final payment deadline for ALL JULY classes is Friday, June 21, 2024.
Classes will be closed for online registration when the class is full!

Understanding Executive Function Challenges in Writing: Effective Strategies for Supporting Students
This presentation will illustrate the role executive function has in written expression and then share evidence-based instructional strategies to support students who are experiencing writing difficulties due to dyslexia and dysgraphia or word-level reading and writing challenges. The session will include supporting theory and research in executive function, writing acquisition, and explicit instruction. Specific practices targeted will include letter formation, letter-sound correspondence, writing fluency, and contextual practice manipulating letters and sounds to spell dictated words, phrases, and sentences.

The Role of Orthographic Mapping in Reading and Writing Instruction
Discover how and why targeted instruction in letter-sound correspondences and phonemic awareness skills can positively impact overall reading and writing performance and support the process of orthographic mapping. This session will include current theory and research surrounding the power of orthographic mapping. The presenter will demonstrate effective practices that leverage the interconnectedness of reading and writing and can be implemented to support struggling students. Participants will have opportunities for hands-on practice and application to analyze student profiles with literacy challenges.
