6th Grade Social Studies
Sixth grade Social Studies is designed to assist the student in understanding the connection between the past and the present. The contributions of ancient civilizations are evident throughout the modern world. The Christian worldview position is compared and contrasted to other worldview positions as students study the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, Rome, and Maya. The impact of Christianity on Rome and its role in the fall of the Empire are also explored. These studies will help in furthering an understanding of how to live as a Christian in today’s world.
Texas History (7th Grade)
Students study the history of Texas from early times to the present. Students examine the full scope of Texas history, including the cultures of Native Americans living in Texas prior to European exploration and the eras of mission-building, colonization, revolution, republic, and statehood. Students will be able to explain the influence of the U.S. Constitution on the Texas Constitution, and examine the rights and responsibilities of Texas citizens. Students will use primary and secondary sources to examine the rich and diverse cultural background of Texas.
U.S. History (8th Grade)
The American History course is designed to provide students with factual knowledge of the development of pre-Colonial America through 1877. Students in the class should expect to read and analyze sources, and write essays from a historical perspective and a Christian worldview.
