Senior High Spanish Courses

Spanish I

Students will develop grammar, listening, and speaking skills in the Spanish language. Students will study the text through videos, projects, and games, as well as verbal and written assignments. Frequent vocabulary quizzes will expand the student's language proficiency and help acquire basic conversation skills. In addition, several countries will be explored in order to expand cultural horizons and cultivate an appreciation for the Spanish language. (1 Credit)

Spanish II

Prerequisite: Spanish I

Spanish III

Prerequisites: Spanish II (w/ grade of 80 or higher)
This course is a communicative approach to learning about Hispanic culture and societies, as well as, learning more advanced grammar structure and conversation pieces. The majority of the learning is done in the Spanish language, with only a little use of the English language to clarify complex issues. Even though there is a textbook used in this course, a lot of learning is completed through the use of class discussion, group presentations, and various projects throughout the year. A desire for learning, a high level of self-motivation, and self-discipline are required to keep up with the pace. Possible topics covered: Sports & hobbies, food & nutrition, technology of today & tomorrow, myths & legends, art & music, etc. (1 Credit)

Spanish IV

Prerequisites: Spanish III (w/ grade of 85 or higher)
Spanish 4 is designed to expose students to much more history, literature, culture and real-life situations which require the use of Spanish. Each unit and chapter is focused on a specific country, of which students will be expected to learn; also included in each unit, students must perform a skit, present a project and/or write an essay. ALL class sessions will be conducted ONLY in SPANISH, with few exceptions. Students will achieve further proficiency in fluency of speech and writing, and also the following areas: use of comparatives and superlatives; demonstrating a greater understanding of the difference between "por" and "para"; demonstrate the use of variations of the future, conditional and subjunctive tenses; and much more. (1 Credit)
