Welcome to the Upper School of MCA
Dear MCA Families and Students,
McKinney Christian Academy celebrates our 20th anniversary as a school this year, and our seniors will be graduating as our 10th class. This year we celebrate how good God has been to us. We acknowledge his provision and are thankful for his faithfulness as we continue to seek his wisdom for the future and direction of MCA.
The challenge for our Upper School this year comes from Colossians 1:10- “..to live a life worthy of the Lord.” We covet your prayers as we seek to make our Christian walk distinctive as we continue to fulfill our mission – To honor Jesus Christ through the education of mind, body, and spirit.
Our Directed Studies program is now in place to assist students with mild to moderate diagnosed learning differences. Dr. Beverly Dooley and the staff of the Directed Studies program will be joining with us as we seek to provide resources to allow for greater student success. We are also pleased to introduce Naviance, our new web-based guidance and planning tool. In one website location, students will be able to assess their own abilities and interests, create a resume, explore college options, learn about scholarship matches for each student, and apply to colleges. This will be our primary tool to let you know of upcoming college representative visits, testing information, parent and/or student meetings, and more.
Having acquired additional SMART boards this summer, we continue to incorporate advanced technology in the classrooms. We also welcome new additions to our staff—Tyler Ferguson (Band director) and Tara Ackmann (TX History, Junior High P.E.)—as well as expanding Kate Perry’s role to include Academic Counselor in addition to Registrar.
