“I am in awe about how God provided the volunteers and how many willing volunteers we had. I am screaming praises to Him,” said Edna Pajela, 5th grade teacher and Spelling Bee organizer.
The day started off with a welcome and opening prayer from Keith Bollinger, MCA’s Headmaster.
It was followed by Cameron Baller, a 6th grade Junior Leader, leading the participants in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Barb Norrell, MCA Parent Teacher Fellowship volunteer and grandparent, shared her gift of leading the participants in praise and worship music.
Debi Sass, Lower School Principal, shared words of wisdom and told students that while a trophy, medals and awards are a wonderful thing to have, that is nothing compared to the acceptance and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Edna Pajela, 5th grade teacher and Spelling Bee organizer, shared the competition rules and encouraged students to do their best.
All participating students were released to their classrooms and the Spelling Bee began.
MCA had the following students qualify and participate in the Spelling Bee:
Third graders Jack Jouette and Maliq Brock
Fourth graders Ashley Davis and Harrison Bailey
Fifth graders Dylan King and Garrison Anderson
Sixth graders Sam Fanatico and Will Harrell
Seventh graders Luke Harrell and Jackson Brock
Eighth graders Montana Brock and Michael Collum
“I like the Spelling Bee because it makes me feel good when I get the word spelled correctly and it helps a lot with one’s mental strength being up there in front of the judges and having to spell. It will really help me later on in life so I won’t have to look up words in the dictionary, and I would be able to just spell it,” said Sam Fanatico, an MCA 6th grade participant.
Congratulations to Maliq Brock, MCA 3rd grader, who won 2nd place overall for 3rd grade.
“It was just fun knowing God was there helping me do that, helping me to use the right letters and win,” said Maliq Brock, MCA 3rd grader.
After the awards ceremony, the top four placers from 5th grade through 8th grade had the opportunity to participate in the final spell off.
“The students that participated in this year’s spelling competition were better prepared than ever before. The fifth grade elimination round of the competition lasted almost three hours,” said Debi Sass, MCA Lower School Principal.
“Participating schools mentioned that the competition ran smoothly and was well organized. They also liked how friendly, supportive and helpful the volunteers were,” said Edna Pajela, 5th grade teacher and Spelling Bee organizer.
