Dysgraphia: Theory, Assessment, & Instruction
November 5, 2022
8:45 am - 12:00 pm
Dysgraphia is a complex disorder that affects students’ ability to express themselves in a variety of ways. We know that written communication requires the integration of related foundational literacy skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling…). This integration process can be challenging for students who have difficulty with one or more of those skills and, therefore, hinder their ability to write effectively. With this in mind, the focus of this workshop is to understand dysgraphia by building a working definition of dysgraphia, identifying common challenges that students with dysgraphia face with written expression, and providing research-based instructional approaches to help remediate these difficulties. The workshop will be grounded in cognitive theory and relevant research with practical application in assessment and instruction embedded throughout.
