Heritage Tournament, December 2007

The Mckinney Christian Academy Girls team ended the 2007 year on a high note sweeping four games and winning the Rockwall Heritage Basketball Tournament to improve its record to 12-6. MCA defeated Denton Calvary 54-39 in the finale. In her first action back from knee surgery, Junior, Savannah Brock led the Mustangs in the title game with 14 points and 6 rebounds from the post. Sophomore forward Aly Collins added 13 points and 10 rebounds and 6 steals, while Junior wing Paige Nelson scored 11 points with 12 rebounds and 6 steals. Point guard Taylor Brock 7 points and 4 assists and Sophomore shooting guard Emily Crombar also chipped in 7 points. Sophomore back-up point guard Carlee Smith added a basket to round out the scoring.

MCA pressed early and led 14-9 after one quarter. Savannah put in 8 in the second quarter as MCA exploded for 20 in the period and jumped to a 34-17 lead at the half. The lead stretched to 45-24 after the third quarter,but Savannah, back-up post Brittani Knam, and Emily Crombar all were disqualified with fouls and Denton narrowed the lead to 11 points before Aly Collins and Taylor Brock put in 6 free throws to end the scoring at 54-39.

In the mornings semifinal MCA routed Greenville Christian Academy 57-29. Crombar led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points as MCA used its reserves liberally. Savannah and Aly Collins put in 9 each and Paige Nelson and freshman Priscilla Chiessa pitched in 8 each. Taylor Brock scored 5 and Carlee Smith added 4.

Nelson who scored 23 points in the tourney opener versus that same Denton Calvary team in a hard fought 53-46 win was named the Tournament MVP while Savannah Brock and Aly Collins were also named to the All-Tourney team.

MCA will open district play this Friday at home versus Colleyville Covenant Academy at 6pm at McKinney Fellowship Bible Church.
